John lived and breathed sport – Throughout his life he spent as much time as possible playing sport. From rugby, football, golf, tennis to squash and more he loved the competition but also the community feel within a sports club. When it was his time to put down the ball and/or racket he turned his attention to bettering sport for others.
With a strong business acumen and strategic mind he knew his talents were best served helping clubs off the pitch.
For over 12 years he volunteered at Surrey Rugby. He served across multiple roles including; Club Development, University Cluster Officer, Charity Trustee and Volunteer Leader. He was most proud during his time as Honorary Secretary, County Chairman and President as that’s where he felt he made the most impact and difference.
John was never one to shy away from a challenge and throughout his 12 years with Surrey Rugby he put in the hours, like many other volunteers do, to bring change and progress to the sport for others.
John’s passion and tireless commitment to helping community sport grow and flourish is the reason we launched.
